Editorial process
Submission (Reception)
-
Each time an article is received through the OJS platform, the editorial team must verify that the authors have uploaded, as supplementary files, the following documentation:
-
The letter of intent and originality.
-
The declaration of ownership and transfer of copyright.
-
Once this has been verified, it must also be confirmed that in the submission the author has:
-
Used the journal’s article submission template.
-
Submitted the article in Word format.
-
Included the title in Spanish and English.
-
Provided an analytical abstract (for research and review articles), explicitly including the problem statement, research objective, methodology used, main results, and conclusion. Maximum 200 words, in Spanish and English.
-
Included keywords in Spanish and English.
-
Provided ORCID, CvLAC, and email addresses for all authors.
-
Complied with the accepted length of the journal: if the article has fewer than 6,000 words, it will be rejected. If it exceeds 9,000 words, notify the editor for a decision.
-
For research and review articles, organized the manuscript into the following sections (at minimum): introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, and references.
-
Added the CRediT taxonomy roles in the footnote of each author, after their personal information, in the following manner: Roles: writing – original draft, methodology, research.
-
Used the APA 7 citation style rigorously.
During this verification, the editorial team must run the article through Turnitin to ensure there are no indications of plagiarism. Once confirmed, the editor must be notified via an OJS discussion so they can proceed with the substantive review (topic, methodology, etc.). When both reviews (formal and substantive) are complete, the author must be notified through OJS and given eight days to upload in the same discussion the corrected version of the text, along with the necessary supplementary files. Likewise, if the Turnitin report shows high similarity percentages, the author must be asked to rewrite the sections flagged by the software.
In the case of article submissions in a language other than the authors' native language, these must be reviewed by a certified translator before being submitted to the journal.
As per the journal's policies, articles by the same author are not published within the same year.
Evaluation
-
Once the author resubmits the corrected manuscript, it is sent for peer review through OJS, and the author is notified via the platform.
-
In a discussion, the editorial team suggests two or three potential reviewers per article for the editor’s approval. Reviewers must be assigned through the platform.
-
Each article must have two to three reviewers. All reviews must be sent to the authors, not only favorable ones, so they can improve their manuscript as much as possible.
-
The editor is the only one with the authority to reject or accept articles from their OJS account. If the editorial team (manager and coordinator) considers that an article does not meet the journal’s quality requirements, they make a recommendation to the editor, who records the decision on the platform. The same applies to articles that have completed the review process and whose authors have submitted the revised version. If the editorial team considers the article ready for publication, they propose it to the editor, who registers the final decision in OJS.
Copyediting
-
Once the article has been accepted by the editor, it is sent to the Copyediting stage in OJS, and the copyeditor is added as a participant. The entire production process must be conducted through OJS. If necessary, the copyeditor may contact the author directly. The corrected version is then sent to the authors for review and approval. Authors must address all comments made by the copyeditor during the process.
Layout design (Production)
-
Once the final version from the copyeditor is ready, the file is sent to the Production stage, and the typesetter is added as a participant. The entire production process must be conducted through OJS. If necessary, the typesetter may contact the author directly. Figures submitted by authors must be included under “Ready for Production” so the typesetter can incorporate them into the PDF.
-
The PDF is sent to the author, who must approve the final version within three days and prepare an infographic of the article highlighting key elements.
-
Based on the author’s feedback, the typesetter makes the necessary adjustments.
Once the final PDF is ready, the OJS administrator is added as a participant to upload the corresponding galleys in XML. The editor or the journal coordinator, with the editor’s approval, are responsible for publishing the articles and issues.
After all galleys are ready, the editorial assistant and the editorial coordinator must verify the accuracy of the metadata before proceeding with DOI registration.
